Welcome to my July 2026 newsletter.

Wow! Where is the year going? Another busy month has just gone by, with the launch of my new Maria Callas talk which has gone down a treat. Also a couple of Cartier talks, including a wonderful day this last week at The Lyceum Club where ASA held their annual NGV Winter Series day. There were such interesting speakers including Susannah Fullerton OAM who most of you know I work with closely.

Adrian has a really interesting early morning interview with Trevor Chappell following Trevor's holiday in the Cook Islands.

At the half way point of the year it’s always a good time to have your jewellery checked. As many of you know I work closely with my jewellers to clean jewellery, check settings and stones, and generally make sure that your pieces are safe, wearable and looking their best!

Adrian and Francis Leach talk about Diamonds, the effect of lab grown Diamonds on the white commercial Diamond market and then the rareness of coloured natural Diamonds.

Welcome to my May newsletter. Can you believe it’s May already?! June is just around the corner and, for those of you who don’t know, so is the NGV Winter Series Exhibition, featuring fabulous and historic jewels by Cartier.

Another interesting interview between Adrian Dickens and Trevor Chappell covering costume jewellery both modern and antique, imitation Diamonds, gold used for teeth, valuation certificates, resizing rings and repairs.

March was another busy month including an all day photo shoot of some beautiful millinery and Circa AD Jewels, in conjunction with Louise Macdonald—a wonderful Melbourne milliner—who I am enjoying working with.

A most interesting interview today where Trevor and and Adrian began by talking about Divorce rings! Which finger they are worn on (generally the middle finger) and how most are bold and incorporate all the stones, and maybe a few more from the now no longer worn engagement rings.

Another busy month mainly handling the scrapping of yet more gold and silver because of the crazily high prices that continue!

Another early start—this time Adrian spoke with Paul Verhoeven on ABC local radio. They talked about lab grown Diamonds, green gold, scrapping silver, cameos, and Paul’s Casio digital watch.

Welcome to my May 2025 newsletter.  Winter is finally upon us and even though things generally start quietening down at this time of year, I am well and truly inundated with work of all sorts, as well as designing some really special pieces.

The chosen subject this month was engagement rings, which lead to all sorts of other jewels.

A 40-odd minute interview packed with yet more interesting images sent in by listeners and questions from all over Australia.

Whether it’s a sign of the times or that people are wanting to realise on their jewels, I find I am being asked more and more to sell some really lovely pieces on consignment...

Throughout the year I am always buying pieces that I love and that are unusual. I tend to save them up for the catalogue as it gives me real pleasure to show them and for them to be part of my collection.

I can’t believe we are now into October, and here in Melbourne we had some lovely days but also some very windy ones too! My catalogue is coming together nicely and there will be an online version too!

The Southern Grampians Parkinson’s Peer Support Group is to be the beneficiary of funds raised at an event hosted by the Hamilton Hamper on Wednesday evening, which featured guest speakers that included Dr David Rendell, who spoke on his personal experiences with the disease.

The story begins in the late 1980s when a woman in West London spotted a cheap piece of costume jewellery at a car boot sale. She bought the sparkly ring for "a tenner" and wore it on her finger for the next 30 years. One day she casually showed it off to a jeweller, who told her it looked like a white diamond and was probably worth more than £10. It was probably worth £100,000.
