The only daughter of yet another eccentric English family, the Sitwells, Edith Sitwell and her brothers were notable literary talents.

Edith’s uncommon appearance, fashion sense and jewellery made her hard to ignore.

Edith dressed differently to most of her contemporaries, with an avant-garde style that included high fashion and jewels. Dame Edith’s small jewellery collection is now partly displayed in the V&A, London. Both a famous writer and talented poet, Edith was deep down very affected by the unkindness of a father who wanted his eldest child to be a son and heir.

This talk discusses and reveals some of her family intrigues that shaped her character. We learn about Edith and her brothers through the contents of the Sitwell country home “Weston Hall”, sold a few years ago. It is here that Adrian delves into this moderately wealthy family’s eclectic yet traditional taste, so typical of their generation of the minor British aristocracy, as well as Edith’s jewels.
