About the event
Step into the elegant world of the Georgian era with Adrian Dickens of Circa AD Jewels (personal jeweller and ArtsNational lecturer) and Kenneth Park (historian, curator, ArtsNational lecturer and cultural ambassador).
Through two complementary talks, discover the jewellery, architecture and social history that defined one of Britain's most influential periods.
Inspired by the jewels of Jane Austen, Adrian Dickens explores the beauty, symbolism and craftsmanship of Georgian jewellery. From magnificent necklaces and ornate brooches to elaborate gem-set parures and sentimental keepsakes, these remarkable adornments reveal the tastes and values of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Learn about pieces once owned by Jane Austen and the enduring appeal of these historic treasures today.
Kenneth Park examines the evolution of the Georgian house, exploring its architecture, interiors and role in everyday life during this fascinating period.
