Explore the fascinating world of animals in jewellery and art with Adrian Dickens of Circa AD Jewels (personal jeweller and ArtsNational lecturer) and Kenneth Park (historian, curator, ArtsNational lecturer and cultural ambassador).
Through two complementary talks, discover how animals have inspired artists, jewellers and collectors for centuries.
Adrian Dickens examines the symbolism, beauty and craftsmanship of animal jewellery. Featuring jewel-encrusted creatures and those who owned them, this talk reveals how animals have been used to express status, personality, affection and style. Elegant, whimsical and often highly imaginative, animal jewels continue to captivate collectors and wearers alike.
Kenneth Park explores the depiction of animals in art, examining their roles as symbols, subjects and companions across different periods and artistic traditions.
